Access to Education

Gives access to education for 1 child
Gift Description:
$22 provides access to education for 1 child in a developing country. With your gift, buildOn provides access to education for one student in a rural community by providing the engineering, materials, skilled labor, and project supervision to build a school. Education is the best hope for escaping from poverty, and studies show that a person’s earnings increase by 10% for each year of schooling they receive, which translates to a 1% annual increase in GDP if good-quality education is offered to the entire population. With this donation, each individual village provides the land, local materials, and unskilled labor to complete the school. Additionally, each village promises to send an equal number of boys and girls to the school. Once the school is completed, buildOn carefully monitors the school's success, and if the school successfully educates both the sons and daughters of the community, the organization will return to build a second school. This way the community has a strong short-term incentive to properly educate all children to mirror the many long-term benefits of educating its youth.
